The Pope John XXIII Regional High School wrestling team made history once again on the local level on Saturday. The Lions became the first Sussex County team to win back-to-back tri-county championships by winning the ninth annual Hunterdon Warren Sussex Tournament at Phillipsburg High School in Lopatcong Township. Last year at this time, the Pope John XXIII Regional High School football team was supposed to play a team from Maryland in its home opener. On Saturday, the Lions got another chance to host a team from Maryland, this time it was Bishop McNamara High School of Forestville, Md. [read more]

Four-star recruit Noah Brown of Pope John made a verbal commitment Monday to Ohio State, choosing the school over a group of finalists that included Rutgers. [read more]

To those outside of Pope John's boys track and field team, they'll remember their 2013 season for their results. They'll remember the Lions for winning a fourth straight Hunterdon Warren Sussex championship, a second large-school NJAC Championships title, a NJAC American Division title, a third-place finish at Non-Public A and a third at Non-Public, North A. Beginning mid-June, over 200 truckloads of topsoil and rocky fill were removed from the track and its infield as a first step toward upgrading the facility to FieldTurf®, an enhancement that will provide our student athletes with their third state-of-the-art playing field. [read more]
