Pope John boys soccer to host Alumni Game on Oct. 22


SPARTA — The Pope John XXIII Regional High School boys soccer team will proudly host an Alumni Game on Oct. 22 between current and past players of the program.

The game will kick off at 1 p.m. on the varsity soccer field. The first 40 minutes of the game will be between current players and alumni, while the second 40 minutes will be players of even numbered graduation years versus players of odd numbered graduation years.

Anyone who as ever played for Pope John's varsity team is eligible to play.

Come meet old teammates and some of your coaches! Coach Chlodnicki, Coach Adilla, Coach St. John and Coach Vohden. Even if you can’t play, come and meet old friends.

This is as much a soccer reunion as it is a game. Feel free to bring your family to the game. The varsity team is working hard to re-build the soccer programs at Pope John.

After the Alumni game, there will be a BBQ of hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks. Donation to help defray costs welcome.

Where: Varsity soccer field at Pope John XXIII Regional High School

When: Sunday, October 22nd, 2017

Time: 1:00 p.m.

Who plays: Anyone who has ever played for the Pope John Varsity team.

What to bring: Bring cleats, shinguards, etc.

Alumni Soccer shirts: We can purchase Alumni Soccer shirts for the match $10 each player let us know your shirt size.                                 

How the game will be played: First 40 minutes will be current varsity player’s vs Alumni Second 40 minutes will be even graduation years vs. odd graduation years. There will be a Referee for the game. Don’t worry about your fitness or age; there will be plenty of players.

    Call Margaret Butler a renaissance woman. The Pope John XXIII Regional High School senior can talk politics, play a character on stage, score incredibly high on tests, perform science experiments, speak foreign languages, paint a picture, give her time to others, and the list goes on. So, there is no wonder why Butler received early acceptance to Harvard University on Tuesday night.

    The Pope John Players' latest play “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” the award-winning play, film and book which they are presenting tonight at 7, Friday at 8 p.m., and Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m., at Pope John XXIII Regional High School, has been a drama of great difficulty. However, they have relished the opportunity to put on their best performance to date.

    By trying to be the best he can be, Pope John senior linebacker Jake Brown has put himself in the best position possible to succeed on the field and in life, as he has committed to Harvard University to play football and continue his academic endeavors for the Crimson.
